Wetlands Bill and USS Liberty Study Panel Revived

Two bills previously recorded as dead were moved back to in-committee status on Sunday, suggesting procedural corrections or reconsiderations rather than new legislative action.

Two bills previously recorded as dead were moved back to in-committee status on Sunday, suggesting procedural corrections or reconsiderations rather than new legislative action.

On the Move

SB 231Relative to road frontage requirements and setbacks for wetlands — shifted from dead back to in-committee. Sponsored by Sen. Keith Murphy (R), the bill would modify road frontage requirements and wetland setback rules. Property owners and developers in areas near wetlands could be affected, as the changes may ease some development constraints. Environmental protections for wetlands could be reduced depending on the specific adjustments made.

HB 256Establishing a committee to study the federal government’s response to the 1967 attack on the USS Liberty — also moved from dead back to in-committee. Sponsored by Rep. Matt Sabourin (R), the bill would create a state-level committee to examine a decades-old federal military incident. Critics of the bill have noted that studying a 1967 federal matter falls outside the typical scope of state legislative resources.

Both bills were previously marked dead and are now back under committee consideration. It is not yet clear whether either will advance further.

Today’s activity was limited to these two status corrections. No bills were signed into law, no new legislation was introduced, and no floor votes were recorded.
